Wow what a gorgeous book! I went into it not knowing what it was about and it gripped me from the beginning. I really enjoyed the way the story was told and it always kept me interested and wanting to know where it was going. I loved the fact that it empowered women and showed that there’s no “right” way to live your life and paths can change. A really enjoyable read!

3.5 ✨ a fun read - the pacing was a little long in spots and I’m not a huge fan of the writing, but I enjoyed the story and the characters were fun and lovable

City of Girls has the glitz, glamour, and debauchery of the 1940's all wrapped up in the story of a girl named Vivian's coming of age.

The characters and the setting in City are Girls are memorable. They were funny and endearing and sentimental and by the end they felt like friends. I found myself mourning over people who Vivian loses along the way in her life as though they were my friends as well.

Aunt Peg, the theater, and it's members were my favorite part of the book. I was wishing for more.

Some of the story is pretty melancholy. Most historical fiction is a bit somber. And, I think that is why I tend to shy away from it. I'm sure that this wouldn't be a problem for anyone who consistently reads this genre.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I would definitely read more from this author.
