I mean…eh?
This book was like fine. I do not see at all the hype TikTok gave it. I can appreciate the magic system being a rather original idea but for me that doesn’t make a stunning book.
Outside of the magic system, it was your standard fantasy story with a dash of romance. There were some cute moments but it mostly felt so very lacking for me. There was no emotional connection in it. And the basically fade to black spice level was frustrating - being more accustomed to red hot spice this fell so flat.
All the ‘plot twists’ I called immediately and if not immediately, still well, well before they were actually revealed. I’m still waiting for the shock and awe everyone raved about.
Don’t get me wrong, it was good. I did enjoy it. I did read it. I will read the second purely out of curiosity. But will this ever get a reread out of me? No. Decidedly not.
{3 ⭐️ - Run of the mill fine book, not amazing but not bad, basically just enjoyable. Would not reread but glad to have read it. Wouldn’t actively recommend but also wouldn’t dissuade others. The book form of ‘mid.’ If part of a long series, it’s likely I won’t continue with the other books.}

So so beautifully written. I wasn’t connected to the romance as much as usual but only because the story overshadowed it. The magic system is unlike anything I’ve ever read before and gripped me from the get go.
