Good but not mind-blowing collection of essays on Gothic hero. There were some especially interesting notes about American Gothic rising from the history of the country (racism, obviously). It covers the earliest American Gothic right into the modern age of urban horror. What's missing is more diversity. One of the only non-white authors I remember reading about was a mention of Toni Morrison's Beloved which is a really important book.
