This is a really interesting book and covers a lot of large concepts regarding apartheid, racism, colonization, the issues within democracy and sanctioned murder but at times it’s very disjointed and very surface level. If you are newer to the subject matter I think this book would be helpful but otherwise you might be frustrated by the lack of depth.

very informative and thorough. i’d recommend reading this in the current global landscape and i wished i’d read more this much sooner, before many of the current atrocities taking place.

A lot of great insights, but Mbembe's style is - in many places - needlessly obtuse. Often, it takes several readings of an individual paragraph to grasp - even superficially - what he's getting at. I did appreciate the movement between a more critical register and a more poetic one, however.

Psychoanalityczny i antropologiczny przyczynek do kolonializmu. Tekst jest gęsty, rwany, szalenie wymagający, z ambicją ogarniania całości mimo niewielkich rozmiarów. Dostałam parę poręcznych tez i frapujących analiz, skończyłam z ulgą. Trzeba nauczyć się więcej.
