These books are so well written. Our girl is growing up and that's hard to do.

I liked this one a lot, but probably not as well as the first two in the series. There were still a lot of good bits, and some great bits, but I found my mind wandering at times, which is not a great sign. The first half of this was amazing, but the second really faltered.

I have a new rating system to explain my criteria for a good book. A yes to each of the following questions gains the book 1 star.

1. Is the writing style professional, understandable, and entertaining? BIG YES! This authors’ style is probably one of the most creative I’ve seen.

2. Are the characters relatable, round, deep, and interesting? Yes. I love September and her Wyverary. These characters are so creative, as well as many others.

3. Are there important and interesting themes, motifs, subtext, and lessons learned, whether obvious or subtle? Yes, in these books it is more subtle, but I do see many interesting lessons and metaphors on what growing up feels like and how September learns to cope with life.

4. Is the plot creative, interesting, well-developed, and unpredictable? It is so close, but I have to say no. There are wonderful ideas throughout this book, but the actual plot takes far too long to even begin and even then I wasn’t as captivated as I was by the other books in this series.

5. Is this a book I would want to own or read again? I do own it, and I love this series, so yes! I may read again.

This is somewhat weaker than the first two, but oh man, every time Ell gets small enough to fit in a sling around September's shoulders, I just bawl and bawl.

Still a very good read but lacks some of the charm of the first two books.

I'm only halfway through, taking a break from it for a bit. I so loved the others, not sure if it's the book or me in this one.
