Another enjoyable book from Robin Alexander. It took me a long time to finish this one because I just got burned out after reading several of the author's books in a row. This is one I might read again at some point. Alexander writes some fun characters.

Sheer delight: nothing else comes close to describing how I feel about this book. Slice of life appeals to me very deeply, especially dosed heavily with lots of sweet romance. I love these ladies so much!!! This was the meet-cutest!!! Add in family hijinks and lots of meaningful rumination on sexuality and life and death and family... it was just perfect. Happened quite fast, especially between Noel and Sunny, but I didn't mind very much. I was SO ready to be charmed, and by god the book delivered.

Hats off to Ethan. Now I want a facial.

4.5 stars.

ETA: how could I forget??? The narration as done by Lisa Cordileone was superb! Great voices, subtle inflections two differentiate between characters (and sometimes not so subtle; I LOVED the Long Island accents lol and dear Ethan's voice) and between the adults and teens. She also had really good comedic timing. Really lovely work all around.

3 stars. Way too bloated with too many characters. This is less than 300 pages and it’s just not long enough to develop on anything fully. I like Alexander’s writing but have yet to really love a book by her. The humor in this was very hit or miss (mainly miss) and I wasn’t all that invested in the characters and quite a few of them got on my nerves. However, I didn’t hate this and it definitely had its moments so I’m giving it three stars for being entertaining enough.

Two fluffy romances for the price of one. This was the perfect way to spend a Saturday in autumn.

The Fall is a fast, mostly angst-free story about Noel, a 35 year-old dentist in the mould of Shane McCutcheon, and her 17 year old straight and still-uncomfortable-in-her-own-skin niece, Harper. Both their worlds change when they meet Sunny and Lydia Chase, a mother-daughter duo who are both lesbians and who have just moved to Baton Rouge with Sunny's flamboyantly gay, oft-drag queen uncle, Ethan.

Noel's mother Inez, who does not believe in boundaries of any kind, believes it's time Noel settles down. And when Noel meets Sunny, she thinks she wants to try to start a relationship. Trouble is Harper, who has befriended Sunny's daughter Lydia, and shares one of those lightening in a bottle type of friendships has forbidden her "coochie catcher" aunt from trying anything. And Sunny, who is really interested in Noel and has been unlucky in love, thinks maybe she's putting too much pressure on herself and preempts Noel's attempts at actual romance with the offer of a casual affair. Noel accepts, but it's not what she wanted.

Harper, meanwhile, is in best friend love with Lydia. That is, until she asks Lydia to kiss her one day, and, well, her whole life just sort of clicks into place in that moment. And Harper’s journey is cute, even though she’s a massive jerk to Noel and her mom and her cousin Corey and that classmate she’s just abhorrent to in her Lydia-induced blindness. She can be a bit unlikable at times, which is realistic for a teenager trying to figure out her sexuality. But be warned nonetheless.

Hijinks ensue. There is drama. Our heroines fall in love.

It's a cute story with a fun cast of characters. I may even read it again some day, but it's just okay. It's a little too stereotypical. Of course the protagonist is like Shane McCutcheon. Of course the gay uncle is so flamboyant. And that's not bad, necessarily. It just felt a bit dated for a book written in 2014.

I enjoyed this romance novel with its crazy cast of characters. I am unsure if I have read anything by this author but will be actively seeking out her books now.

Yeppers, The Fall is definitely one of my favorites by Robin. This double love story screams family fun, loyalty, and drama in a cross-dressing, bush-spying sort of way. There’s discovery, coming out, and great chemistry between the main characters, Noel and Sunny. Based on her other books, Robin’s main and supporting characters have a lot in common including embedded backstories that connect with a past event, the story’s setting, or with another character. I’ve often wondered if one or all of Robin’s characters represent her other people in her life.

The Fall is a fun read. The characters are lively and unpredictable, and the story moves at a nice pace. I do wish that Noel's mom and Sunny's uncle had gotten together a little earlier in the book. Things would have gotten super ridiculous if they had. This was an enjoyable book, and I will look for more by this author.
