This book was delightful. I read this book out loud to my 7 year old for school. The illustrations were beautiful and captivating to the storyline. My 7 year old was intrigued and enjoyed the story as well. It was a nice introduction to who Leif the Lucky was, perfect for the age of my son as we learn about the Vikings.

Interesting and beautifully illustrated book about the Vikings discoveries in Greenland and North America.

Not sure how the kids felt, but I found this to be a great read aloud resource for Leif and a brief introduction to Erik the Red, Native Americans, and the idea of new continents being discovered.

The kids weren’t engrossed in the illustrations, and while I personally find them fascinating, I’m not sure my rating will reflect the usual flair for D’Aulaire.

Beautiful artwork and wonderfully descriptive writing! After reading about the Vikings we read this book for a second time and loved it all over again.

I truly enjoyed this wonderful read through history prior to the "discovery of the New World." The illustrations are charming and very thought-provoking. My daughter will surely remember this one for a good while, as will I!

We read this as a living history book to expand our study of the vikings. It was an excellent resource.

All three of my children loved this book so I may have to obtain our own copy. Went very well with our Mystery of History lesson on Leif - my children definitely agree that it wasn't Leif who was lucky but those he saved from drowning. They were also very intrigued by the beautiful illustrations!
