Good, but the characters didn’t quite feel fleshed out or something. I couldn’t quite connect.

I did not know much about life in the west during the early 1900s so I enjoyed learning about the treatment of Mexican and other ethnic groups. The characters were beautifully written and I really enjoyed the story. I would definitely recommend this to someone on the fence.

really really promising, I wanted it to be good so bad, it has some really beautiful and vivid imagery and some really cool indigenous concepts, but it just fell flat for me. characters weren’t developed enough and not enough time was spent on the very ambitious, intergenerational plot. I’ll have to check out the author’s short stories, they might hold up better.

I love Fajardo-Anstine’s prose. Reminds me a little of Jesmyn Ward’s writing. I wanted a little bit more at the end—although I can understand the author’s reasons for leaving things unsaid, but still I wasn’t ready for it to end.
