It is so evident she loves her homelands. She also was such a feminist from a young age.
It’s also so fascinating to read about her father’s quiet and strong resistance to Taliban rule for continuing to teach and run his school. Also fascinating to see the way children are so adaptive to the world around them, and so aware of their political environment at a young age.

This was never an easy book to pick up, and I struggled with some of the history, but it is an engaging and compelling story.

Amazingly written. Would be lying if I said I didn't cry a few times.

I mean, what can you say. What an incredible woman. And a really beautifully, artfully written book. The politics leading up to her attempted assassination are laid out clearly, and are infused with her warmth and passion and humour.

Key takeaway quote "Sometimes I think it is easier to be a Twilight vampire than a girl in Swat" really dates her experiences as a teen girl in the early 2010s.

Wow… what a phenomenal story. I listened to this on audio and enjoyed every minute. Malala’s story is unbelievable and it’s hard to believe she’s only one year older than me. I also loved that it wasn’t just about her and the shooting, but she included stories about her mother and father, and even some historical/geographical information about Pakistan that I didn’t know. This was such an informative book and I highly recommend (especially on audio!)

A very interesting story but I would have loved to have heard from Malala’s point of view. It contained a lot of her fathers history and then the history and politics of Pakistan and there were a lot of bits you could tell have been forced in by the co-author so it didn’t feel like an authentic read. I think this book would have worked better had it been written a number of years after the attack rather than quite quickly when Malala could have rounded it off better and spoken solely to her own experiences and understanding.
