This book took me a few months to finish just because it was so sad and therefore hard for me to read. It’s obviously nonfiction so everything in this book was the truth. It was also very slow paced. But the story was very inspiring, and it was so interesting to see how different the culture is in Pakistan to the culture where I have grown up. So in summary, story was enlightening, writing was good.

It is so evident she loves her homelands. She also was such a feminist from a young age.
It’s also so fascinating to read about her father’s quiet and strong resistance to Taliban rule for continuing to teach and run his school. Also fascinating to see the way children are so adaptive to the world around them, and so aware of their political environment at a young age.

I listened to this book on audio, and have to say I enjoyed it a lot.

I already knew I would, because I admire Malala immensely. I think there is no greater cause than education for all girls and boys. There is no evil education cannot shed light on, no better way to move our society forward than investing in education for all. It is our right to get to know the world through books, and Malala is not alone in this pursuit.

Plus I also enjoyed the historic background and the descriptions of life in the Swat valley and Mingora. All of it was poignant and touching.
