I don’t even know what to say. It started out good, but now I can’t even say what the book was even about. Yikes. Oh well. Can’t get those 9 hours back.

Really compelling story of the danger of being a woman who dares to succeed in a man's world and the complicated relationships young women have with women outside their family that shape them in unexpected ways.

Solid, interesting story about a female lawyer and a teenage girl, both dealing with the misogyny, sexual harassment, and racism rampant in their 1980s Southern community. Told more in vignettes than a strict narrative, I was engaged throughout; Phillips writes female characters very well, as shown here and in her Fierce Kingdom.
