Fun, I like the actions that go with each page, but overall not really aimed at kids more at the parents. Or maybe at older kids - it wasn't a big hit with my kindergarten/early elementary students.

What a teaser of a counting book! Will we ever get to count the monkeys, as the title suggests? I'm not telling, but it won't matter anyway, since this book is such, such fun. This is the first counting book that features lumberjacks, and a few other unusual things-to-count. It will make a perfect read-aloud, for the pages encourage reader participation. The pictures are fabulous, bright, and entertaining, and the story will make you smile.

You would expect that you would be counting monkeys in this book, wouldn't you? But in true fashion of Mac Barnett, this goofy interactive book starts out with a cobra that scares off the monkeys. Then, something else scares off the cobra, and so forth. Will the monkeys ever show up? This would be a great read aloud option since it is interactive (wave your hands, etc. kinds of interactions) but would not be great for those still learning to count.
