Disorienting. Parts made my heart sing but most parts left me feeling 'huh'.

it's at times hard to tell whether some of the poems were written last week or 1000 years ago (in a good way). He also talks about spotted towhees a lot.

Beautiful and thought-provoking imagery, but I did lose patience with the constant use of bird imagery.

steeped in nature and biological imagery, so lovely. I really loved the poems where the speaker took the form of a growth of lichen or table salt. a lot of times i don't "get" poems by old guard poets/poets who have been writing a long time but I felt like this collection had a lot to teach me without me racking my brain to figure out what was going on. will definitely return to it in the future

There were a few poems I liked, but overall this collection was way too opaque for me to enjoy. Sze's style is very imagistic and expressionist, but I had trouble discerning the connections he was trying to make most of the time. There's also a very jarring juxtaposition of natural scenes and lines about violence that lacked a clear focus, in my opinion. So yeah, not for me.
