DNF

starts with a graphic and gross sex scene with a 16 year old girl - why did she need to be 16?
The writing style is NOT for me - super overwritten and tries too hard to be funny. Massive info dumping in the story AND the foot notes of each chapter.
We GET it’s a cat who’s not a cat - please stop repeating that fact.
And I found it boring.

Scrolling through the multitude of reviews for this book it seems like something you either love or hate, 1 or 5 stars. I understand both sides of the reviews for this book, I remember sitting down during one section and wondering if I'd get used to the writing style of our fellow 'gentlefriend' but in the end I really enjoyed the book. Looking forward to getting into the rest of the series.

Amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed this coming of age tale of revenge and a creed of assassins. I will definitely be reading the other two he has planned Mia's continued adventures. It made my heart swell, then broke it, only to fill it with hope again. I will be inspecting JK's other series's.

This book has been sitting on my shelf for a while now because I had trouble with understanding the timeline swap and the footnotes. I don't know why, but something threw me off. But I wanted something dark and brutal, so I pulled it down. It took a little while for me to build up momentum but I was invested before page 100.

Mia's character is an interesting one to follow, and I had to remind myself she was only 16, which makes some of her choices make more sense. I ultimately really enjoyed reading this and watching her climb the ranks in a church of assassins. And the final confrontation was fantastically built up. I have no clue where we're going in the next book, but I'm off to pick it up!

Every time I try and read this book I lose interest because this book is just to confusing in the beginning, it's almost frustrating, so I think I'm just going to give up...RIP
