This is a short poetry chapbook containing 18 poems, many of them containing references to yoga. Possibly all the poems contain yoga references, but if so, I missed some! Overall I liked the sentiment, the humanity of the poems. There were many places where I put ticks on my copy to indicate phrases or sections that I particularly liked. As is common for me when reading poetry, there were times when I felt I was missing something, something that I might have understood if I had studied poetry. (I read poetry. I write poetry. But I have not studied it in a formal way.) I especially appreciated the inclusion of a poem on the topic of latching-on -- "The Latching-On Song" -- but my favorite poem was "The Annunciation," an ekphrastic poem which I found both moving and beautifully expressed. Three other poems stood out to me: "A Local Joan of Arc," "Child's Pose: Balasana" (tender yet stark), and "Pantoum" (a nicely specific affirmation of love). Recommended.

About my reviews: I try to review every book I read, including those that I don't end up enjoying. The reviews are not scholarly, but just indicate my reaction as a reader, reading being my addiction. I am miserly with 5-star reviews; 4 stars means I liked a book very much; 3 stars means I liked it; 2 stars means I didn't like it (though often the 2-star books are very popular with other readers and/or are by authors whose other work I've loved).
