Class reading (only the first two books). Can't say I have an interest in continuing the poem.

Books 4 and 9 my favourites. Some of the early passages come across as meeting minutes. Thought it was very funny when the angels called Satan a chicken and he immediately, angrily explained that it was all a clever ruse actually

My boy Satan did not get the ending he deserved.
Adam was boring, and Eve was too often forgotten.
I give it 2 stars for the effort and the political ideas hidden between the lines. But God, am I glad it's finished.

I don't even know what to say...
This was, hands down, the most difficult book I've had to read. I'm physically drained after finishing this. Even through this, I think this was really good because it really engaged my mind and gave me new perspectives.

Admittedly, I got stuck halfway through.
The appendices are a treasure trove though, a nice collection of commentary on Paradise Lost from a variety of big hitters in the humanities and literature from throughout the past few centuries.

I read this one as part of a Literary Life Podcast community read along. I never {never} would have tackled this on my own, and I was grateful for the added encouragement to keep at it because it felt like a bit of a slog at times. But I really, really enjoyed it by the end. Beautiful. Vivid. Thought-provoking.
