Really really interesting!! The only thing that docked it was not it’s fault, but the fault of some of the included theory being occasionally impenetrable. Really enjoying my nonfiction kick

For most of the novel, I couldn't quite follow Nelson's train of thought. Nelson mentioned how some students of Eileen Myles said that their teaching style was like "throwing a pizza at them", and I got a similar feeling reading this book. Nelson's habit of jumping around in time and subject without warning confused me for most of the book, but I luckily still felt the emotional impact of her writing. In fact, two sentences into Harry's account of his mother's death, I started crying, and kept doing so until he finished. Although the style of her writing meandered more often than not, I'm grateful to have read such a vulnerable account of her partnership and motherhood. Nelson is a wonderful writer and thinker, and I hope to read more of her work soon!
