'Haphaven' by Norm Harper with art by Louie Joyce is a story about luck and superstition and what one young woman will do to fix things.

Alex Mills was raised on superstitions by her father. It's been handed down in the family from her great great grandfather and Alex lives by the rules. When her father's luck runs out and her mother has an accident that could only have been caused by breaking a rule, Alex gets help to turn things around. She ends up in a strange place called Haphaven and makes a group of strange friends along the way.

I really liked this story. The worldbuilding was interesting and the characters weren't bad. The art wasn't my favorite, but it works for the story. This would be a decent young adult graphic novel to recommend.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Lion Forge, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

This was an excellent graphic novel both in the writing and in the artwork. The character development was a little too predictable, which is what kept me from giving it a 5 star rating. The concept was interesting and the plot very clever. I would give this one a thumbs up and a recommendation to read.

I think this story was just not meant for me. I didn't find myself caring much for any of the characters. I thought it was a really cool idea, but the execution didn't work for me. I liked the artwork though! But the actual content left something to be desired, at least for me...

The main character is a teenage girl named Alex, who has become increasingly superstitious when her father passes away. She is superstition to the point where she does not want to celebrate her 13th birthday since 13 is an unlucky number. After arguing with her mother she decides to step on a crack to break her mothers back... and it actually happened. Not going to lie, I laughed when Alex rushed in her house and her mom was on the floor.

So the rest of the time we see Alex doing whatever it takes to save her mother and that includes fighting bad guys in a magical place that is hiding a pretty bad secret. Really fun read with refreshing dialogue that actually made me chuckle a few times. Although, this could have been spread out to 2 graphic novels so that way the pace didn't seem to rush.

Also, was not a fan of the artwork.

I thought that the premise for this was clever, and I enjoyed the positive message. I liked the art, but it was a bit hit-or-miss for me. Sometimes it was more loose and scratchy than I would prefer, but there were some panels, especially the ones that play with shadow that I loved.
