I wanted to read something light and fun as a break from some of the dark thrillers I have been reading. Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies was exactly what I was looking for. Eleanor’s stream of consciousness dialogue was hilarious, the mystery was a perfect classic mystery with lots of suspects and red herrings, and as a bonus you get a beautifully detailed tour of Italy and its food and drinks. This is a perfect summer/vacation read.

I love love love cozy mysteries, and was looking very forward to this one, but it didn’t work for me. The MC tries way too hard to be funny. She’s supposed to be 35 but sounds more like maybe 20. The dialogue is very cringe and unrealistic sounding. All of the characters are either unlikable or undeveloped or both so I didn’t care if they all died. The style was weird - hundreds of footnotes. There were too many pop culture references. And the pacing was weirdly slow. But points for beautiful surroundings and me not guessing the murderer, I guess.
