This is the story of Kelli, the sex therapist who is seeking something more for her life instead of being stuck in a marriage that is not satisfying. She meets Jake, the confident man from the bar. Jake becomes her "new patient" and through his sessions with Kelli we learn a little bit about Jake's transformation from submissive to dominant.

What I did like about the story was the transformation that Jake went through. While at times it seemed a little far-fetched for my tastes, the journey made it interesting. It also seems like we have not heard all of his story. We have only learned bits and pieces of what made him into the self-assured and successful dominant man he is today. Kelli also was intriguing. I feel like she will later come out of her shell and this was just to set us up to read about her journey into self-discovery.

What I didn't like about the story was that at times the storytelling was disjointed and made it somewhat difficult to follow along. I also felt like I would want more of a particular story and instead of getting more it would switch to another story. I felt that I would have enjoyed it more if it followed a more logical telling of events and if we heard all of the parts before moving onto something else. While I was intrigued by Kelli, I lacked any real connection with her. I could sympathize with her situation but lacked the true understanding as to why she would stay married to someone like her husband for so long. The few glimpses we had into her past with him were less than ideal and made it very hard for me to connect with her.

Overall the story was decent but not my normal cup of tea. I like dominant men and am usually fascinated by BDSM, but do have a problem when people stay in loveless marriages with no real intentions of leaving. I'm not a big fan of cheating and multiple partners, unless there are specific reasons for it and I did not see the specific reasons in this case.

This book captivated me from the first page to the last and left me eagerly awaiting more from author, Jake Furie Lapin. Variety is truly "The Spice of Life" as the book details the many sexual escapades of Jake as related to his sex therapist, Kelli. The two have more in common than initially realized and as they discuss Jake's transformation, Kelli begins one of her own.
