Before all this happened, the closest I'd ever come to getting physical with a guy was playing the board game Operation. Okay, so maybe this sounds pathetic, but it's not like there were any guys at my high school who I cared to share more than three words with, let alone my body.

When author Daria Snadowsky e-mailed me asking if I wanted to review her YA book Anatomy of a Boyfriend, which is going to be released in paperbak in September, I jumped at the chance. It's not everyday that I'm offered the chance to get a perfectly enjoyable YA book for free.

Anatomy of a Boyfriend is the story of seventeen-year-old Dominique, a student in her last year of high school who meets Wes, a senior in another school. They get to know each other and soon fall in love; this is the first relationship for both of them, so they've got alot to discover about love and getting physical with the other sex.

Anatomy of a Boyfriend is a book about first love and making love for the first time. Dominique and Wes's love story is sweet and intense. However, when the two of them leave their hometown to go to two different colleges, things start to go awry...

I loved this book, which is sweet and romantic and everything you'd expect a first love story to be. I'd recommend it to lovers of the YA genre everywhere.

Rather good, hilarious read! The story of a girl, who because of lack of experience and comparison thought, that the world spins around one particular boy. I enjoyed the characters - especially Amy and Dom's grandma, it was fun with Wes's fixation on the dog, but not on Dom, whereas she was devoted to him. The author showed the difference between girl's and boy's ways of thinking. I liked Dom's relationships with her parents. Good book!

This one is like a modern day version of Forever by Judy Blume, just not as good. There are some funny moments though.

I found Anatomy of a Boyfriend when I was 15 in my public library. Of course, as a curious teenager, it interested me. A couple years ago, I saw the book laying at the top of a pile of $1 books, so I thought, "why not?" Finally, while attempting to do a book purge, I found Anatomy of a Boyfriend and decided that I should at least give it a read before I traded it in... Not surprisingly, I wasn't pleased. It took me over a week to trek through the 259 pages. I enjoy a good YA romance novel, I won't lie, but this one was not great. The book is a printed cliche: high school girl has never had a boyfriend, said high school girl finds a boyfriend, they have sex, go to different colleges, and then she thinks they're going to live happily ever after.

The writing was dull and lacked complexity, in my opinion. I know that this is meant for teenagers, but I really do think teenagers are smarter than this. I don't think that the depictions of sex were all that accurate (maybe the author didn't want to make things graphic for the sake of young readers?). I don't care about visuals, but the scenes just seemed vague and uneventful to me. Maybe I would have loved this had I read it when I was 15. I just hope that young kids don't read this looking for an accurate depiction of sex or an answer to all of their sexual curiosities. I think that my best advice would be to leave this one on the shelf, despite its interesting cover.

I enjoyed this book with all of its awkwardness and such but lost points because Dom was quite annoying and really immature.

Very predictable, but i sympathized Dom so much. I didn't even like Wes one bit as a character..

There have been reviews for this book all over the place, well now it’s my turn! First off, I just want to express my concern that some readers have been surprised that there is sex in this book. Number one: It’s called “Anatomy of a Boyfriend,” number two: there is a naked man-doll on the cover, number three: are there still really people out there that think teens don’t have sex? Let me throw this little factoid at you, nearly half (46%) of all 15-19-year-olds in the United States have had sex at least once. If you don’t believe me check out Guttmacher.org.

Now that I’ve aired that out. I only wish I would have had something like this to read when I was a teen. Thankfully I have an extraordinary mother that was there for me. The only sex talk my mother ever received growing up was that sex was a dirty, nasty, thing that you only did with the one your love. I guess she didn’t want me to grow up with that same warped view on sex. I’m not condoning or condemning teen sex, but I think that having information available and books like this are absolutely necessary.

Okay seriously I’m off of my soap box now, and on to the review. It’s probably obvious that I liked this book, I enjoyed reading it. It was a great story and I’m sure that is some ways it parallels the first love that many of us have experienced. The only thing that bothered me, and I know I’m not alone in this, is there wasn’t enough “love story” for me. I didn’t see the how of why these two feel in love, or really why Dom fell in love with Wes. Had that aspect been fully represented I think that this read would have been even better.

However the actual depiction of the relationship, was totally believable! The highs, the lows and everything in between. The characters had sex yes, but they did have safe sex. The sex scenes themselves, while they were graphic, never crossed the line of becoming phony or smutty. It’s authentic, maybe that’s why I liked it so much. And probably also because The Princess Bride is my all time favorite movie.
