Sadly I spent most of my time apologizing, although no matter how I tried they were never accepted, again I believe it was because I was the wrong person apologizing.

I think everyone should read this book and learn how to repair relationships. It was very insightful and I enjoyed reading it.

An informative assessment of apologies, types of apologies( regret, repentance, restitution, repentance& requesting forgiveness) apologizing to different people(kids. friends, work, dating, relationships, elders etc) over apologizing, self apologizing and more.

I mean it's a bit boring but if the topic is in discussion or you want to learn more about apologies this is a good resource.  (Same author and goes hand in hand with 5 love languages, which aligns to the repentance apology somewhat).

This book was a quick read. It was a bit redundant in places but it also had a few good insights. If you are person who feels constantly slighted, you might want to read this book and get an idea of why you feel this way. This book does have strong Christian comments in case that would bother you.

This was a really informing read--I think everyone should at least glance through this book. It talks about how different people prefer different apologies, and how that's why sometimes apologies, while heartfelt, seem insincere. I learned that my apology langauage was "expressing regret", so now I know what brings me the biggest sense of closure :D

It took me a while to read this book because it’s a lot to process and the writing is sometimes a bit dry. BUT I learned so much. Starting to put the apology languages into practice has been super helpful in my marriage and other relationships. I’m going to reread the chapter on teaching children to apologize when I am a parent one day. And as someone who is often very harsh with herself, I appreciated the inclusion of apologizing to and forgiving yourself. Something I’m going to be thinking a lot more on.

Helpful exercise: at the end of each of the chapters that described the 5 languages, Chapman includes several examples of how to apologize in that language. My husband wasn’t reading the book, but when I reached those examples, I would read them to him and asked if he liked any of them. Then I’d tell him if any of them felt sincere to me. That helped us find out each of our love languages and start putting them into practice.

Also note: saw a lot of reviews about Chapman’s faith being included in the book (more than some of his others) and just wanted to say you don’t have to be a Christian to read this book. Christian theology on forgiveness informs some of what he has to say on the matter of forgiveness, but apologizing is universal.
