Thank you to NetGalley for a free review copy of this book!

This was such a fun read! I really enjoyed getting to know Tara and all her friends as they came to terms with their newfound alien powers. I think if you like a high school setting but with an alien twist then you will love this! Can't wait to read volume 2!

This is a fun young adult science fiction graphic novel! Tara is an awkward teenage girl who does not fit in with her peers and has a cold relationship with her very structured parents. She is waiting for something big to happen in her life, when she catches on fire during school and is whisked away to the school for extraterrestrial girls. What unfolds is a cute story about finding yourself, belonging, friendship and fighting for what you believe. There was also thought provoking commentary about the American centric model for learning in schools and racism.

I received an ebook of this title from the publisher via Netgalley; all opinions are my own.

Cute story with an alien allegory about feeling different and out of place as a teenager. Loved the queer energy and the all girl cast with some androgyny mixed in there.

I felt like the main drama was resolved a bit too quickly, it was hard to forgive Misako (and hard to like Tara for a good portion of the book).

I adored this, it was the cutest. On the surface a sci-fi/fantasy boarding school story, but dig a little deeper and you have a tale of friendship, acceptance, being yourself, forgiveness, strength and family. The illustrations were vibrant and brilliant and the characters were perfect and so fleshed out. I especially loved Kat. I cannot wait to read the next one, especially with that last square!

TW: hateful comments about appearances, kidnapping

I truly did not enjoy reading this - not a single one of the characters was likeable, the execution of the school setting was lackluster and the tension felt incredibly forced. Our main character gave us no real reason to be on her side, as her outbursts and moments of hurt did not even feel befitting of a teenage girl, but rather just a poorly written character. While I enjoyed the art, to an extent, I have absolutely no interest in continuing to read this story to find out what happens to the characters. It was lukewarm enough that I at least finished it, but man, was it bland.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book for an honest review!

I was so in deep in this story and it just ended and now I’m super sad. The characters in this book are fun and their personalities were great. The conflicts in the comic were really well done, and I am super pumped for more from this series.
