I so so wish this book had been longer, and that it had started with the same grit that can be found somewhere around page 140. The first 100 or so pages I honestly couldn't get into, but now at the end I am left with nothing but wanting for more of Cye and Esther's story.

my only criticism of this book is that the first half felt like a draft of a novel that had scenes missing. but then it hit its stride and i completely fell in love with the world and every single character. it was a ride i didn't want to end and i could easily read another 500 pages about these characters. i'm sad it was so short! i wasn't done!

I liked the characters a lot, especially the librarians. The Western setting was great, but I agree with others that more time spent on world-building would have made for an enjoyable story.

The idea was there the execution was not. But I am always going to give queer badassery a chance
