3/5?
Honestly I'm not quite sure. It was fine enough but I feel too short to really say how I really felt about it.
I mostly read it to put it in a Reading Challenge (needed a title with a colour).

2nd re-listen. Dropping my rating to 2 stars from 3 because really this is one of Mary's stories that I never came back to, apart from now that I'm reviewing all my audio books.

So despite Greg Tremblay's really good narration and the lovely Japanese accent he did, the story was ok. Out of the almost 3 hour book, more than half was spend in a semi 2 year span while Dwyer and Takeo were both working for a real estate development company and kinda getting to know each other when the opportunity arose and the last 30% was spend with Dwyer and Takeo going from 0 to 100 both relationship wise and changing working environments...

I never did felt the chemistry and connection between the two MCs so yeah...

This was cute, but nothing particularly special. I don't think it really followed Calmes' typical "Sam and Jory" formula, there was no Jory type. Dwyer was popular, I guess, but I don't remember people just falling all over themselves to be close to him. Takeo was very awkward and brusque, but it felt more like he had a disability than just being plain rude.

Really, this is just fluff, not a lot of substance to be found in this one, but not a terrible way to spend an hour(if that).

I feel awful that I'm rating a Mary Calmes books so low, but there was no chemistry between the MCs, there wasn't really any relationship building. From Dwyer's little memories of interactions with Takeo, I got the friend vibe, but since I didn't really see anything between them other than talking at work, I never felt a connection between them. I kept reading, hoping that I'd finally get that spark or that something would happen, but sadly, it never did.

This is a favorite of mine that I return to again and again, both in audio and ebook form. Dwyer is so adorably FOND of all the things Takeo does that drive his coworkers crazy. And once they manage to establish that the attraction is mutual, HOO BOY! I love it.

Traditional Japanese characters are few and far between in modern literature; I was thrilled to see Takeo being represented with wonderful attention to detail along with an obvious appreciation for his upbringing in Blue Days by Mary Calmes. I've loved everything I've read by Calmes to date which meant I wasn't surprised to find I ranked it 5 stars almost from the beginning.

I loved the slow burn of the build-up to the relationship between Dwyer and Takeo. Their mutual respect for one another showed through in careful treatment of each other in all their interactions. They were wonderfully considerate to each other regardless of the disapproval of others or any kind of concern for others looking in on their relationship. I fell in love with their friendship before I fell in love with their love story. That's really impressive to me in a short read.

Blue Days won't be the last I read of the Mangrove Stories. I'm so thrilled I got the opportunity to grab this one at Dreamspinner Press so I can have it in my permanent library.

Noooo it ended too soon. Okay I always try and describe how Mary Calmes writing is to me and I figured it out she writes love interest that get each other and it doesn't matter what anyone else around them thinks, only that the two love interest get each other. They're usually in their own worlds. I love that, that there's someone out there for everyone no matter how they come across. Her writing gives me that hot mug of tea with a great book feeling. Loved this one!
