I liked the premise of this, especially that it's two sisters running a B&B, but it really only focused on one sister as the main character and I didn't find her that likeable. Many cozy mystery protagonists are bossy she meddling, but Sarah lacked a quirks that endeared her to be. Even though this book was published in 1994, it bugged me that the author kept referring to Sarah's friend/employee as "Indian" and then literarily patting herself on the back for her main character not assuming his guilt because of his race or alcoholic past. (Of course the "Indian" character is an alcoholic 😐)

I really liked main character Quill, but the ending made her out to look really stupid, so that was a downer.

The broad, overblown humor and caricature characters aren't my style. The whodunnit (and the other twist at the end) were telegraphed pretty early on.

I listened to the audiobook and the review is for that edition. The story itself is mediocre. With the exception of the protagonist, almost every character was unlikable and grating--most particularly the bizarre hotel maid. The postscript ending was nonsensical. The audiobook narration was perhaps the worst I've ever encountered. Listening to hours of over the top, whiny narration would be bad enough but hours of vocal fry is intolerable. I was mildly curious about the identity of the murderer so I stuck it out but it was tortuous. Avoid this edition.
