Jam for Nana is a sweet and touching exploration of a child's desire to share something with her grandmother.

Deborah Kelly's story is simple but deceptively profound with its implication that practicality is no barrier to giving, whether jam or joyousness. Likewise, Lisa Stewart's illustrations both support and enhance the theme with simple, flowing lines and soft colors.

The book itself, as an object, is beautiful and worth prominent placement in any family's home - something to be admired by adults as well as children, and shared at bedtime or storytime by everyone.

Sparse illustrations and text tell the story of a little girl enjoying pancakes and jam with her grandmother.

This is a book with a little more depth than average. Nana talks about the jam of her childhood, and there is a wealth of nostalgia and a touch of melancholy in the words and pictures through the book. There is a lot of love evident as well, and this will encourage kids to get into the kitchen try to recapture the flavours of the past. This is a book to read quietly, intimately, and with someone you love.

Recommended: for everyone, served with some homemade jam.
