I enjoyed reading it at work and on the train. Not a classic, but not pretending to be. Character development is weaker than descriptions of setting and crime, but I am enjoying Mclean. The character needs to develop, should not stay in his Grandma's car, should either get in a relationship properly or end it etc...

Really enjoyed this book. Great follow up to Natural Causes. Recommend to anyone who likes gritty crime novels. You should read Natural Causes first if you can. Will not tell you the story or about characters just read it.

It is a very strange series but I really like it.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than I did the first. The story flowed, the characters were vivid and realistic, but sometimes it was like the story couldn't decide if it wanted to be paranormal or not. There were hints and bits thrown in, but never felt truly committed until near the end.

I would have liked the story a lot more were it not for the Emma/McLean dynamic. I just don't like Emma; her character annoys the life out of me and I can't bring myself to care for a single part of her. She shows up at McLean's house unnannounced and crawls into bed with him more than once without his knowledge/consent. Then, when they both have a day off, she gets upset and throws a childish tantrum because a female work colleague calls him about a work situation with a superior that he needs to fix. This was because she had plans that were ruined, when really, McLean had no clue about her intention to spend the day together because, again, she just showed up at his house unannounced and stayed the night. While McLean doesn't have any problem with it in the story and actually seems apologetic about the situation for some bloody reason, I do, and I think it's mostly because if a man did any of those things (repeatedly showing up out of the blue and just staying in a female colleague/friend's bed that they had romantic intentions towards) he'd be vilified and marked as a weirdo or perv or stalker or something. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it's my inherent dislike of her skewing the situation, but it soured my experience of the story a little.

I really enjoyed this second book in the Inspector McLean series.
I like the main character and team. The story held my attention throughout and I'm looking forward to reading book 3.

I’m really enjoying these - vivid main characters that you really get to know well. The killer was a little out of left field, which would have bugged me with other authors maybe, but it’s testament to how much I like this series, that it wasn’t as much of a niggle for me here. Definitely looking forward to the next one!
