This was just fine. It felt like some of the elements could have been fleshed out a bit more and made amazing. I enjoyed the different perspectives we got as well as the setting but I don’t think this book will stand out in my memory over time.

No me lo he leído muy rápido, pero me ha gustado mucho. Le falta un poco, algo, para ser perfecto, pero lo he disfrutado. Me ha sorprendido lo diferente que es de otros libros de Leigh Bardugo. Es un libro raro, especial. Me encantan las partes que tiene la historia que recuerdan a contar un cuento (la parte en la que Santángel cuenta su maldición es chulísima) y todo lo histórico (tenía miedo de que fuera una estadounidense sin mucha idea contando la historia de España, y no me ha dado la sensación de que fuera así). El personaje que más me ha gustado ha sido Valentina (incluso si no le hubieran gustado las mujeres, creo que también sería mi favorita). Desde el principio ha tenido algo especial, creo sus contradicciones están muy bien fundamentadas. Sólo he echado de menos más desarrollo de su personaje cuando decide ir a buscar a Quiteria, pero entiendo que no es la protagonista. Me ha gustado mucho también el personaje de Hualit. También Luzia: su desarrollo creo que ha sido perfecto, no daba para mucho más sin más trama que la acompañase. Con Santángel me he quedado un poco corta, y el amor entre él y Lucía creo que va demasiado rápido, me hubiera gustado que la tensión durase más. Igualmente, me gusta como personaje.

This was a very melancholy read for me. The book started off a little slow for my taste, but definitely picked up enough for me to enjoy it. I enjoyed the character development of both Luzia and Valentina, and I ADORED how the book ended.

Finding an enjoyable and satisfying standalone novel nowadays is a rarity for me (I tend to accidentally start new series/trilogies all the time thinking they are standalones haha) and this one was a breath of fresh air in that regard!
