Another illustrated book of passages, which makes for a lovely bit of reading.

Discovering that I enjoy Carle's collage style more when there's an interplay between foreground subject and background, and when the subject is colourful, rather than one object all one colour, i.e. squirrel on a white background. Multicoloured animals and marine life contrasting with the ocean behind them ae the best of the bunch. I also prefer it when it's his own simple narrative, as opposed to a hodge podge of quoted, albeit multicultural, works: Bible(??), haiku, folk proverbs, nonsensical rhymes and only occasionally original animal-focused poetry.

My son said it was ok but he is not a fan of poems. My girls loved it. So many diverse poems to give you look into that vast world.

The pictures are great of course, just as you would expect, some look very familiar as we've seen this animals before in [a:Eric Carle's|3362|Eric Carle|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1224294488p2/3362.jpg] other books. My son didn't care all that much about the poetry, but his favorite (and partly thanks to the illustrations) was "Quack!" Said the Billy Goat.

A lovely collection of poems to share with my daughter. Be aware that a few of the selections contain some dated language, so we did have to navigate around that. But, as always, Carle's illustrations are magical, and our little one was fascinated by them. Every time we get to the octopus cover image, she giggles! Worth it just for that!

Eric Carle's illustrations are a joy to look at. Each page is a different animal with a poem attached. The poems range from Bible verses to Hungarian proverbs There is a Christian element to the book, so be aware when recommending or looking to do this as a read aloud. Nevertheless, it is a fun and enjoyable read.

Eric Carle's Animals Animals is a collection of poems about animals by various poets. Eric Carle has illustrated the book and like all his work they are colorful and beautiful. I really enjoyed the variety of poems included in the collection. It has some poems that were obviously written for kids and others that were not necessarily written for kids. One of my favorites was "Bat" by D.H. Lawrence. It describes a bat flying through the air and compares it to "a black glove thrown up at the light, And falling back." Another of my favorites was "Butterfly" by Benjamin Franklin. It was a simple two line poem (What is a butterfly? At best/He's but a caterpillar dressed.) I found myself thinking about it after I finished reading the book. My daughter (3 years old) enjoyed the sillier peoms more than the descriptive ones. Her favorites were "The Birthday Cow," which wished a cow a "Happy Mooday" and ""Quack!" Said the Billy Goat," which described some mixed up farm animals. She also really liked the colorful illustrations. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Eric Carle's art or who wants a fun poetry collection to share with children.
