Wasn't an easy read. But worth reading for some of the interesting techniques used. The way Richardson uses the fake epistolary (in the sense that Pamela is often writing letters that she isn't sure will even be delivered and so she approaches it as if writing a diary, but one that may be read). The way Pamela comments and glosses on previous conversations and letters. And the way other literary forms (lists, poems, sermons) make it into the text.

Okay so part of the reason it is taking forever for me to read Pamela is that it's an eBook on my PDA, and I only read it when I have absolutely nothing else to read.

But there's also that it's a very slow read.

Hey, I actually got to good part where Pamela and Mrs. Davers have their confrontation. Now that's the real stuff. Pamela can be quite annoying, but she plays Davers perfectly with her sweet yet firm, guileless yet clever gentle but always insistent unyielding belief in her status as an un-fallen woman.

Back. And almost done. My how they all go on. But Pamela's restating of her husband's rules for a wife and the problems with spoiled aristocrats and esp. her glosses on all of that are hilarious.

Volume 2 was a bit better, as there was more variety in the letters, and even a bit of strife (even though you knew it would come out fine in the end). Pamela does go on a lot, though, with her exclamations.
