Another amazing book by Daryl Banner

You can probably tell from the title that Bromosexual is a m/m romance. When reading it, it doesn't register to me as a m/m story, it's just a romance that happens to have two guys. After all love is love. It features two 'bro's', who's journey toward love is sidetracked by a falling out that lasted almost 10 years followed by a whole lot of denial and fun experimenting.

I loved this book so much, but it was written by Daryl Banner so I was expecting I would. I haven't read anything from Daryl that I didn't enjoy.

Stefan Baker and Ryan Caulfield were best bro's, little league team mates, inseparable throughout high school until their senior year when they had a major falling out. Both expected the other to fold and contact the other, neither did.

Almost ten years later circumstances find them together again, rekindling their friendship which was no easy feat with both holding on to resentments from the past, but it was also stirring up feeling from their teenage years that they didn't realise they had and until now didn't understand what they meant.

Acting on those feelings had Stefan questioning his life and who he was, reluctant to be labeled and had Ryan confused and unsure about Stefan's intentions, thinking it was because he was at a crossroads in his life.

This book is full of whit and humour and had me laughing out loud on several occasions, however it has it's serious side too and I shed a couple of tears at the emotional turmoil these characters were finding themselves in.

It all works out in the end, Daryl does promise a HEA but travelling the journey to get there with Ryan and Stefan is the fun bit.

Even though I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, I am supporting this author and have already purchased a copy, and I urge you to do the same, you wont regret it.

It took me nearly 2 weeks to get through this one. It had really good parts, but there was something off about the writing. Or maybe it was just not my cup of tea. The pacing was slow, and certain parts dragged with their mental chatter, which felt unnecessary because it wasn’t exactly telling me more about them. There was a bit of show don’t tell. I don’t know. Maybe this author isn’t for me

Not bad, but the world building fell flat. Meaningful connections with secondary characters were practically non-existent, instead the author focused solely on Stefan and Ryan’s relationship—which isn’t a bad thing, it’s just not my personal preference when it comes to reading. Also, why weren’t Ryan’s parents present in the story outside of when he was still in highschool? Did his dad accept his sexuality when he finally came out? Does he still have a relationship with either of his parents?

Also, despite the title, nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming amount of bros present in this book.

This book was full of toxic masculinity and internalized homophobia, neither of which are addressed at any point. It was like the two characters were constantly just going “no homo” (not literally) after every action. One of the characters literally has a sexual fantasy in which the two characters keep calling each other “bro” during a blowjob. There was plenty of “quit being a pussy” and “you’re a little bitch” nonsense thrown around. The characters are so obsessed with their own masculinity.

Once Ryan comes out as gay, Stefan starts thinking of him differently, as in “he must have liked wresting with me,” “everything is different now that he’s gay,” “why are you complaining about me being naked - you get to see the goods for free.” Just absolute homophobic nonsense to assume that someone is interested in you just because they’re gay. He literally calls Ryan a “homo.”

And this book was just ridiculously sexually driven. The characters are constantly thinking sexual thoughts and objectifying each other. Sometimes while the other character is unaware or sleeping, and sometimes based on childhood memories, both of which creeped me out.

all bromo all the time

Ryan and Stefan deserve each other and i’m so happy they found their way back to each other.

The longing Ryan felt for Stefan even after their friendship ended was so much more than just a childhood crush. He truly loved Stefan even when they weren’t together anymore.

I really liked this book but I felt like the whole “oh i’m not gay were just having fun” thing was used waaay too many times without ever really resolving the issue on how the two felt about what they were doing.

I laughed so hard when the term “Bromo” came up and a bunch of other times as well.

Really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more from this author.
