This book made my twelve year old self (who was discovering what fantasy was traveling through alageasia with Eragon) fangirl so much.

Murtagh has always had a special place in my heart and in my Pantheon of favorite characters, and I adore him even more now (if it is even possible).
His relationship with Thorn just made this book for me.

Of course, this Book was not perfect, some parts in my opinion dragged a little bit, but the experience was still very special to me.

"I chose to hatch for you, Murtagh. I do not wish for another."

I said it before and I will say it again: this is the most anticipated book of MY LIFE. Eragon got me into reading and changed the entire trajectory of my life back when I was 8 years old. Just then is also when I decided Murtagh is my favourite character of all time.

And almost two decades letter, I am thriving as his fan in ways I never would have expected!!! Not even in my wildest dream did I dare to hope for an entire BOOK, 600 pages of it (!!!!) dedicated to this character alone. And yet here it is!!! And it is everything I could have wished for!!!!

Murtagh really went and said: I lived through unspeakable horrors and the trauma of it changed me in ways I do not understand. I do not think I am fit to be the man I want to be for those I care about, so I need the time to explore who I am, and what the future can look like for someone like me. And then he goes and does the hard work of undoing the trauma, of unlearning his hardest thoughts, and of trying to do some good where so far he's been forced to do hurt. And I love him for it!!!!! And I love that this entire book is just pretty much a whole redemption arc for this horribly troubled and mistreated character. It is all I could have hoped for for my favourite baby and more!!!!

Truly iconic behaviour, and I love you so much Murtagh bby!!

I liked getting to read from Murtagh's POV. Watching him go through his healing journey was everything I didn't know I needed. I can't wait to see what else Paoloni has in store for the world of Alagaesia.
