Used as a 3rd grade intro to library. Lots of giggles as I tease the kids about being thrown in the dungeon. I would have liked a little more "oomph" to the ending but it still does a good job getting drawing the kids in.

A very meta story about a king who tells the reader to stop reading because the story isn't actually finished. Good for introducing basic literary elements, like character and conflict.

I like meta books, so this was up my alley. My 17 year old saw me reading it and picked it up as well, which always makes me happy.

I had seen a few students review this previously and give it a poor rating. I wanted to read it and challenge their perceptions in the hope that it was being wittily post-modern and smart in ways that they might have missed but no, they were spot on. I can only describe this as a book that tries too hard to tick the same post-modern tropes which made [b:The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales|407429|The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales|Jon Scieszka|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1488588399s/407429.jpg|1814587] and many others so successful but if you're only going to break the fourth wall and create a little bit of a mess, visually, in the narrative, then that's not going to be enough.
