Um hold the phone... this was awesome? Mad spoilers ahead because I am processing.

OK so this book is basically about a group of mystery kids who are helping out a Smithsonian employee by fixing time travel errors some other, former Smithsonian employee is causing. In this volume, they have to go back and Gould, the shennanigans-causer, from taking over George Washington's guise and turning him into a dictator, subsequently thwarting the creation of American democracy. Blah blah blah what's important here is that the two kids of color separate from the white kids, and run into Oney "Ona" Judge Staines, who as a real woman and slave to Martha Washington, on the day she's decided to escape. Ona listens to Hamilton talk about how GW has changed for the worst and is ruining the republic they've created, and how freedom is important, and nods her head and all that, but then she turns around, sees these kids of color, tells them that there is nothing for her here, she's escaping and she wants to take them with her. They stay bc they are secretly small time travelers but use their fancy future tech to create shenanigans and help her escape, then the young black girl gets to reflect on how horrible slavery was and how hypocritical and terrible the founding fathers were.

Seriously. SERIOUSLY. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS. It happens in a simple, appropriate for young readers way, and it's super rad?? I don't think this comic is being widely purchased but any means but uuuhhh hey buy this for your library, OK?!
