Just a Little Snack: 3.5 stars. I just had expected something even more dark, but this one was pretty dang good. Haunting. Spooky. Oh my.
In Which Two Women Kill a Man: 3.5 stars. Oh snap. I hadn't expected it to be from the man's POV and also not expected him to be such a piece of shit.
What we Owe Each Other: 2.5 stars. On the one hand very nicely written, but it was just too long for me and the obsession of our MC with her friend/the fact she couldn't forgive herself just went too far for me.
What Dinah Knew: 3.5 stars. A bit long again, felt like it could be shorter. But about a mother's love, a changeling, and to accept or not accept what has happened. Quite nice.
Suddenly, I See: 2 stars: While I do like the idea of a girl being taught by a hag to be a witch, the hag was just too cruel and it all too much.
Ain't no Grave: 3 stars. A beautiful tale with many facets from race to being LGBT to rituals and more. But the ending just seemed too soon, too speculative, I need to know what happened to him. Is he fine. Is he not. Did she hear things? Just a bit more would have been perfect.
Something Got a Hold of Me: 2 stars. OKKK.. Sure.

As you can see, a very mixed bag. Still happy I had the chance to read this, but yeah. I had expected just a bit more.

I'm glad I finished this because the last two stories were interesting, but this definitely let me down as someone who reads a lot of gory horror. None of the stories really seemed disturbing, and mostly just seemed like ideas that weren't very well thought out. An attempt at body horror and gore that really didn't make me feel much.

This was a treat to read, absolutely delectable and whimsical horror. Niecey's Garden was the standout to me with how it perfected this dazzling, morbid, obsessive vibe. And the title story and What We Owe Each Other had me fearing for my life.
I was very curious about the worldbuilding and characters in some of the stories and think they could be expanded into full length novels, like Something Got a Hold of Me and What Dinah Knew. Some of them worked rlly well as short stories too tho (the poetic justice of In Which Two Women Kill a Man!)
Overall, I can't wait to watch this author's writing grow in the future.

Amazing stories! What We Owe Each Other is the undeniable star of this collection, haunting and harrowing and so, so visceral. All the stories are fantastic though! If you like gothic horror and horror fantasy, you have got to get in on this.
