Loved having a 43-year-old heroine and a 46-year-old hero. But as with many novellas, there's really not enough time here to allow readers to engage deeply with either character, or invest much emotion in their burgeoning relationship.

4/5🌶️, MF, contemporary, novella, standalone, first of a series, Libby ebook

(Very Short) Summary: A divorcee decides to hook up with her ex’s friend.

Tropes: Second chance at love, single parents of adult children, 40+ year old MCs, divorcee and widower, ex’s friend

Thoughts: I checked this book out of my library not knowing it was a novella, but I’m glad I read it. This short (under 100pgs) novella was able to pack a lot in. I actually felt like I knew the MCs and wanted to cheer for them. I liked that this was a romance with 40+ year old characters. It was short and steamy. There was emotion and humour and spice. It definitely made me want to see what Victoria can offer in more than 100pgs!

A really quick, sweet, sexy story that brings the reader back to Jackson, Wy as Victoria Dahl gets you ready for her newest titles. Lauren is a divorced librarian looking for a little fun but in such a small town she’s not sure where to fulfill her fantasies. Especially since they star sexy, widowed fire chief Jake. They both are looking to move on but can they find the direction they want to move together? Loved the librarian/firefighter angle. Can’t wait to read the rest of Jackson: Girl’s Night Out series!

I thought this was a novella but it must be an excerpt.

Librarian Lauren has the serious hots for fire captain Jake but is not ready to make a move. He's friends with her ex-husband and they basically work in the same office seeing as the library and the fire company share the same building. Jake also has a secret crush on the town's head librarian, but he too is afraid to make a move as he hasn't had a serious relationship since his wife died a few years ago. A few drinks and a girls' night out break down both their barriers, but they get caught by Jake's daughter! Embarrassing! Will their mutual spark turn into more?

Fun little novella and nice to see more mature romance!

I re-read this in honor of the FatedMates podcast about the third book in this series which I had re-read recently. Just as delightful and sexy as my first time, I really love seeing these two fall in lust and love. It was super great too because Jake loved his wife and she was a very different person than Lauren, which gives Lauren some worries, but Jake's handling of her concerns were so sweet and sexy. I also loved seeing these two makeout on the couch like teens and getting caught. Made me laugh.

So, so good. Love reading about older heroes and heroines, and holy heck this was SUPER SIZZLING HOT!! *fans self* This was a quick read (novella) and was a PERFECT night cap. :D It also made me laugh out loud at several parts.

I can't wait to read Sophie's story that comes out at the end of July!
