Snapdragon and her mother have moved to a new town...where a witch lives. When Snap's dog goes missing, she finds him at the witch's house. As time passes, Snapdragon befriends not only Jacks (the witch), but also Louis (a student at Snap's school who lives in the same neighborhood). Snapdragon soon learns that she is connected to Jacks in another way...and that she is a witch, too.

What an amazing story! The different plot lines flowed together seamlessly. The characters were determined, strong, and supportive. A beautiful tale of being different and being accepted for who you are.

Although the art style was not my favorite, I really enjoyed this read. I loved how selfless all of the characters are and how they love and support each other. I thought Jacks' characterization was creative since she is a witch-hermit who works with bones, but she is so kind and really flips the stereotype on its head. I also liked how queerness was readily accepted including Jacks and Jessie's relationship, Lulu's transition, and Snap not following gender norms while still identifying as a girl. I am glad that younger kids have books like this to validate their own identities and to explore this magical realistic world.
I'm not convinces that Jacks *only* found Good Boy, I think she used some magic to bring him back, but that is just my theory.
