What is it they say about the law of diminishing returns? If you ever wanted proof, this book might be it.

The series tracks what happens to Gwendy, when she’s given a button box intermittently in her life. This book sees what happens when she’s g hives it in her 60s, and a Maine representative in the US Senate.

The problem is now that the box seems to have been corrupted, so its “manager” brings it to her, because she seems to… have a good relationship with it?

The problem is, the story makes no sense from there. Gwendy’s ill, but what is decided upon requires good health, and a sign off from other people. The result is I ended up thinking “But how was that achieved?” about those areas.

Once you start thinking that about the things you spot first, the “But hows?” Appear everywhere till you realise the whole story makes no sense.

Oh, and the ending’s daft, and inconsistent with earlier stories, even within the confines of the story as a whole. So you’re going to be thinking “Just, no absolutely not” by the end.

A lovely end to Gwendy's story, with some very interesting Dark Tower stuff to boot.

I don't know how to rate this book. I don't like a lot about this book. There is too much current politics (Covid, Trump, Biden). I don't like reading about current politics, past politics are fine. There is just too much controversy in the US to put that in a book. I also like how Stephen King did not favor one side over the other. It was not that scary, this series should be marketed as a Science Fiction series (I would have to say that the first one (Gwendy's Button Box) was a bit more scary than the other ones. This series is more than Science Fiction than Horror. If you do not like horror and do like Science Fiction (and do like to read about current politics) I would say that you should pick this series up. I will review the entire series in the boxed set.

There was a ton of IT (the book) references. I liked that! It was also a quick read!

Wasn’t a huge fan of the first book in the series. And I completely skipped the second book when King left the project, but of course I’m going to read the third when he returns. That being said there were a couple of references to part two (and the feather) that I just didn’t understand; however, that’s not even what makes this book not so good. The story was completely unbelievable and I say that with the exception of the button box itself. The whole narrative was silly and unreal. The Dark Tower references appeared to be superfluous and arbitrary. King could have dropped out of this series after the first book and nothing would have been lost. As an aside: hilarious how the “vehicle of salvation” is called The Pocket Rocket, I would think these two guys would be aware that’s a euphemistic name for a small vibrator women hide away for sexual gratification. Whatever.
