This book ahs a lot of good ideas for designing on a budget. What I like a lot was that the back has instructions for some crafts/projects you can do at home.

I got really annoyed reading this. Would have given this more stars if it didn’t have the title Thrifty Chic or the strapline, “Interior Style on a Shoestring.” Every single one of the rooms shown are in beautiful period properties. Expect high ceilings, lovely architecture, sash windows and gorgeous sea views. What about ordinary people who live in poky terraces, eighties semis? The photos are beautiful but not realistic for most British homes. For instance every one of the suggestions for making your windows pretty features a period wooden framed window. Most of us have cheap double glazing that was here when we moved in.

I could have written this book given the gorgeous backdrops given. I feel like this book is for smug wealthy people to pretend they are thrifty. I’d love to see a book like this but with the photo examples in
a Port Talbot terraced house, a flat in Telford and a 90s semi detached with low ceilings and small rooms.

A beautifully presented book brimmed with ideas to decorate a home within a thrifty budget. There was a good balance of text and photography making it easy to digest. The chapters cover each room of the house, as well as elements of design and project ideas at the back. I found myself thinking back to things mentioned in the book, as there was a sophistication about the approach to minimalist interior.
