Read this in 5 hours...very good follow up! It took a while to get going though. The first part of the book didn’t have much action and in a nut shell, Alexis is now 27 years old. The first 25% of the book covered the 7 years without Tristan. 7 long, depressing, sad years. 7 years that Alexis fights the thoughts that Tristan is dead. Her writing and their son Dorian is what keeps her going during this time, but even with that, she is depressed. She lashes out at her mother and Owen. She lets herself go, get’s fat, doesn’t really take care of herself, etc.

During these years of depression, Alexis almost develops a split personality. One that is her "normal" self, her "surly" self and then almost evil self. She talks to herself, she thinks she's seeing things...like the vampires she writes about in her novels. She really thinks that she's going crazy. Of course, these things are later explained, but it does make you feel sad for her.

Finally…Tristan and Lexi are back together...but after he's been gone for so long, her mother worries of him being turned. Which is understandable. After being held prisoner and being told all kind of crazy things, I bet it would be hard to hold on to yourself.

The rest of the book focuses on Lexi fighting for herself as she goes through the change, and then ultimately fighting for both Tristan and her family. Very powerful stuff.

I am eagerly awaiting Devotion in Feb 2011.

Very frustrating. I don't think I'll move on to the third book. It's just too cheesy for me: "How do we overcome these obstacles? How can we fight for the good of mankind and our son?" And the long explanations for unnecessary thoughts.

I might have continued if there were little hints already for Sheree and Owen (which I'm sure will be a thing in the future books) but right now that's not enough. This book didn't leaves with enough mystery to continue. And I'm not buying the whole fantasy world very much.

I love the storyline though if that makes sense. I just wish it was written for older audiences and with more upfront, realistic, action-packed storytelling.

I instantly bought this book after I read the Promise, the first book in the series. It takes place 7 years later from the end of Promise. And let me tell you it is heart wrenching. Alexis is in a dark and emotional place. Still not over her loss. To help distract herself she started writing and became pretty famous but later in the book there is a great twist that deals with her writing.

She is raising Tristan and her child with the help of her mother and she has never given up on Tristan being alive. With her belief that he is still alive she decides to confront the Daemoni and finally finds out the truth. Things pick up from there.

In this second book Alexis’ character has become much stronger from the first book. The only thing I didn’t like (coming from a mother’s stand point) was that she left her child for a period of time. But I can also understand it was to find her true love.

I absolutely like this book and I can not wait for the 3rd one…especially with the way this one ended. If you are 18+ I highly recommend you to read this series!

This is my favourite series EVER. I read the first 4 books in what must have been 2012 it feels so long ago and recently I've just had an uncontrollable urge to reminisce and read these amazing books again.

Honestly, I've read all the major series that are bestsellers right now but for some reason I can never go back and re-read them. It just never feels right. Although with this book I always want to go back and read it again and again.

The world that's introduced in this book is absolutely exquisite I love the powers, the whole idea of all the creatures being real and it just gets better throughout the book. One of my favourite things about this series is that even the tiny details that are mentioned in book 1 become a huge deal in book 5 and I think that shows how much thought and care has gone into these books.

Alexis is the most unique mix of badass and caring, I've never read a character like her. I think her character development throughout the whole series is what really inspires me. She is so admirable particularly through her fierce protectiveness she feels for her family.

Tristan. My, my, my. Tristan is one of hottest characters ever I'm in love with him. Owen is a real lad to be honest with you although he did kind of annoy me in book 4 but let's not get into that. Vanessa is a character I have mixed emotions for (I'm nowhere near as forgiving as the Amadis are).

I cannot even begin to describe how incredible the journey that these characters go on is. This whole series deserves so much more credit and so many more readers. I like to think it has made me wiser. I don't even know what I'm taking about now and I've done a pretty bad job of explaining it all but just take my advice and go read this series.

Wow, I am really enjoying this series. The first book was great, but this second book of the series is wonderful. It's a typical good vs evil story with vampires, werewolves, warlocks, etc. with a love story. A mix between Harry Potter and the Twilight Series (with maybe too many similarities with Twilight). **Spoiler Alert** But what I love the most about this series is that the "good" side are Angels - the strength and power and love come from God. What I didn't like about the Harry Potter series is that the "good guys" were teenagers - it is a good story of good vs evil but the good guys do it themselves with their own power (and team work with friendships), but in reality, we need to give God the credit for defeating evil. However, in the Soul Savers Series, the goodness comes from God. Although it is fiction and not biblical, it's a great depiction of a Spiritual war where "demons" try to take the souls of humans and warrior angels fight to save souls - even the souls of some demons. The only issue I have is that the Angels are mostly human....but again, it's fiction not biblical.
If you like the Twilight books, you would like these as well. However, where the Twilight series had "passion without sex" until the last book, this series does have detailed description of sex AFTER they are married throughout the story. Therefore, it might not appropriate for tweens or younger.

2nd time reading:
This time the book was much more better than the first time I read it. In fact I like this one more than Promise which is surprising for me because it was originally the other way around. Purpose now deserves 5 stars. The parts I hated before, I realized it wasn't so bad and amazingly I read through it quicker. I also realized that the hardest part to go through was the prologue when she explained her new personalities or whatever she called them. I also didn't like how she kept referring to them throughout the book. I'm now even more excited read Genesis which I would call the prequel but I don't know if it really it's officially considered that.
1st time reading:
I didn't like this as much as [b:Promise|8144743|Promise (Soul Savers, #1)|Kristie Cook|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1274237404s/8144743.jpg|12943160] but is was still really good. I didn't like the first part when Alexis mourns over Tristan not coming back. It was a little too much detail. I even considered to stop reading but of course I didn't. I admit that it gets a lot better when Tristan comes back. At first I thought that Alexis was just hallucinating but she wasn't. It just seemed too quick like the author was thinking oh Alexis is dealing with too much Tristan needs to come back now. Kind of like it wasn't planned out enough but it was explained later so it sort of made sense. Hmmm... I guess I don't really have much to say about this book but it still DID NOT disappoint me. Go ahead and try this one too!
