I had no expectations for this book and didn’t know anyone who had read it but I honestly loved it. The characters were great and so interesting. Such a unique read and had a witty and consistent tone! the fact that
Timothy is a fire child too
is so satisfying to me idk why LOL. would recommend this to almost anyone!

This was heartbreaking and heartwarming. A celebration of weirdness and learning to love people and learn about them. Reflecting on your own life and how you can surprise yourself, never knowing what curveballs life will throw your way.

A very fast read, I finished it in an incredible 4 hours.

The twist at the end was incredible and made me so joyful!

it gets some less points because I didn't like the way the 2 main female characters were "in love with each other" back at the boarding school, but their sexuality is seemingly straight ever since. I think it felt weird because it was written by man. So some of that dynamic made it odd, because women can truly love each other deeply and not have them be "in love". But even so, that plot point seemed odd and not fleshed out .

I felt there could have been a bit more development of Lillian actually coming to care for the children; it seemed like as soon as she met them she loved them, which I get could be part of it.
