This is my first Richard Wagamese novel, and the words he chose to fill this book showcase a remarkable craftsmanship evident on every page. It's an emotional and weighty, yet beautiful novel. Solid four stars.

4.6/5 It made my heart ache and my throat swell. Painful, irreparable, but fruitful in lessons and relationships.
There was something particularly gutting in the way Frank’s father loved his mother, and that despite it being true, it still wasn’t enough.

It took me a while to get into this book, but by the 150 page mark I was flying through the rest. I do prefer Indian Horse as it is one of my favourite books of all time but I do see the beauty in this one. I hope when I’ll reread this I’ll love it more.
