This is my first Richard Wagamese novel, and the words he chose to fill this book showcase a remarkable craftsmanship evident on every page. It's an emotional and weighty, yet beautiful novel. Solid four stars.

4.6/5 It made my heart ache and my throat swell. Painful, irreparable, but fruitful in lessons and relationships.
There was something particularly gutting in the way Frank’s father loved his mother, and that despite it being true, it still wasn’t enough.

I rarely enjoy the books I have to read for school. I also rarely enjoy Canadian fiction. This book is so masterfully constructed I enjoyed it almost in spite of myself. It was so powerful in what it didn’t say right out
