when i tell you I was reading this book for months and picking it up and putting it back down because I was determined to like it. that middle to end part really kicks off, but there’s that one particular scene where I had to pause and be like wtf no girl no run. Over all, it was an aggressively fine experience

Alright, so by the end of the book I would say I was about 75% correct on my theory. The last 25% was wrong and the twist was not what I saw coming. I can appreciate when an author catches me off guard with their plot twist. The character that I thought was the main bad guy sort of redeems themselves at the end, but it makes what they actually did no less terrible.

I still have issues with Vanessa’s decision making when it comes to men and the marginal flirting at the end of the book feels icky considering what all has happened. Like ma’am, maybe take a sabbatical from men for a while before you make any decisions.

Although Jerry… well according to the Author’s Notes he is a character that has appeared in some of their other books and now I’m sold because, excuse me? He mentioned watching The Bone Collector and that is one of my all-time favorites movies/books and now I need more of his character.

All in all, while the characters didn’t endear themselves to me, they were at least human and flawed and I can get behind that, it was honestly wanting to know the plot twist that kept me the most involved with this book. I wouldn’t read it again, but I would read more by this author.

I am late to this particular party and so sad that Detective Vanessa Castro doesn't have her own designated series.
