I liked it but it also made me realize how much I have to live for practicing Christianity. God is my anchor in this chaos. Also this was really informative on topics that are surprisingly still relevant today.

Sometimes you can just tell when eugenics are going to come up. And this was one of those times.

Beautiful writing and interweaving of the author and David Starr Jordan's lives. And he was an IU president! Who knew! (It may be best to leave that one to history)

3.5. I think this book is thought provoking and I’m looking forward to discussing it at the next book club.

whoever described this as a book talking about science and fish years ago on tiktok: you are a liar. that being said, this was a wonderful book. even if i got scared halfway it wasn’t gonna end well, i let myself finish it and boy was it worth it.

Maybe I'm biased because I think everything Lulu Miller touches is gold, but this book was spectacular. I honestly had no clue what it was about. I only wanted to read it because of the author. Just like all of her other works I've read and listened to, this connected with me on many different levels. An incredibly open and honest biography combined with history. I'd read this again in a heartbeat.
