Wow, I can't believe this book has an almost 4 star rating. It was the worst romance book I've ever read to date (from what I can remember). The writing was atrocious, it was so choppily written and seemed to be like a short story on speed, like the writer was just on fast forward.

I love fun, sexy, sci-fi romances. So this was just up my street. Chronologically this is a prequel to Just My Luck. There were hints in the other books that Detja led Zareth on a bit of a chase.

Detja appears as a delicate, petite and fragile looking female from a race known for timid females. Detja is anything but!!! She is a renowned thief and the foster daughter of a flesh eating outcast from his own race. Detja has been around the block a time or two and she finally makes an error, she not only stole from the warlord, she flashed him a one fingered salute and added insult to the injury.

Yup, stealing from a Coletti warlord may not have been her smartest career move. Now, not only is the galaxy's police force on her trail,so is the warlord! Detja's adoptive dad brokers a mating contract for her with Zareth, as he has to leave to rejuvenate and with their psychic link broken, she could lose her mind. This does not go down well and Detja then leads Zareth and his warriors on a farcical romp through the galaxy.

But Zareth is also a talented psychic and he is slowlt tracking her down. But her persistent resistance and skills have earned his respect.

I felt that their history had been kind of dealt with off screeen as it were and we got things in flashback. Detja also needed an influx of new vocabulary as every incident met with an "Eep" which got a tad annoying.

Detja did have sass and her mad thieving and psychic skills. She cracked me up the way she handled the tough males around her and totally rides rough shod over their machismo!

The "man thinks woman is a perfect mate because she's fiesty so he chases her across a myriad of different destinations and because he's a (warlord)(king)(general)(sub any very powerful title with soldiers working for him) he sends out a group of people to hunt her down and bring her to him, so he basically forces her into servitude as his sex slave, and doesn't respect any boundaries ever or earn the relationship in any way" trope really pisses me off. And it's honestly ridiculous that this is a trope and not specific to this book.

SPOILERS if you're still thinking of reading this book

The fucking ending?!? Guy is still a lovable hero to the girl when he decides to enslave a bunch of other women and threatens to mind wipe them to become basically breeders to fight the genocide of his people. Yeah that's right! And I'm supposed to fucking like this asshole? What the hell is wrong with everyone who read this and thought, huh okay, all fine, what a dreamboat.

Ugh that's it, really do not recommend this book. Find a different book please.
