Einstein's Peep Show by Josephine Myles

from my calibre library:
I found the main characters annoying, and the sex was not hot enough to compensate. I love dirty talk, but even if you take into account that the dirty talk was deliberately bad, in here it was just godawful. It's supposed to be funny, I think, but I just never want to read about them having sex ever again.

The last thing Rory Jones expected was a proposition from his neighbor in the hallway of their building. It's not that he's averse to random hookups. But his nerdy, keep-to-himself neighbor, Nathan, never quite seemed the type. And when Rory learns that Nathan wants to broadcast their time together on a webcam, things get even more interesting. It's not something he's ever done before, but there's always a first time for everything, no?

Nathan might be one to agree with Rory's assessment. He's working hard on his maths degree and has little time for much beyond school. Well, aside from his online cam show which helps him make ends meet. And it's something he hoped to keep a secret until his biggest--and highest paying--fan asks for something more. He works through the awkwardness to ask for Rory's help in what he's sure will be a one time thing.

What neither expects is that they do enjoy their time together. Rory's not put off by the camera. Nathan, though he's not ready for another relationship, felt a connection with Rory he hasn't felt in a while. But it was all just for the camera, right? If they took that out of the equation they would go back to having nothing in common, wouldn't they? But relationships and feelings aren't based on mathematical functions. And unlike that homework due tomorrow, they're also not easily ignored.

I wasn't sure what to think of this at first. It's one of those "jump right into it" stories, and it starts with quite the event. But what's great is that's what pulled me in. This is a quick-moving, high intensity story with no scene or word out of place. The potential for a relationship builds quickly. But it feels right considering the background of the characters. I was with them every step of the way. And I certainly wouldn't mind the opportunity to find out what happens next.

[Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.]

Not my favouritest of Jo Myles' stories but great for a few chuckles, puns and desciptions like never before!!
I got why Nathan was doing the cam work but Rory went from not knowing his neighbour to live web sex in 2 minutes!
A fun story, Nathan gradually lets his barriers down and Rory works his magic - or just teaches Nathan how a relationship can be.
Quick, well written, light read.

I did not care for any of the characters or the writing in this book. Which, given what this book is, really shouldn’t be the main selling point, but I’m currently reading a bunch of books that I do enjoy so I guess I just don’t have as much patience for this right now

4.5 Stars ~ I must admit that author Josephine Myles is an auto-buy for me. I enjoy her work thoroughly and am never disappointed with her brilliant stories. Her newest novella, Einstein’s Peep Show, is funny, sweet and a wee bit hot.

Nathan has crunched the numbers over and over, and even can show you his spreadsheet, and the reality is the best money while investing the least amount of time was made while being a sex model online. After all a guy who is putting himself through Uni needs as many breaks as he can get; hence, he performs soft porn online for money. However, his client is getting more demanding and when he insists that Nathan (aka “Einstein”) bring in another guy, Nathan goes to the first and most logical person he can think of–his next door neighbor Rory.

Rory is a fairly happy and contented guy. He has a good job, a nice apartment, and okay, so maybe his love life is a little sketchy, but the clubs are always there if he needs to scratch an itch. So when his nerdy yet oddly appealing next door neighbor asked him if he wanted a blowjob, Rory did not hesitate to say, hell yes. Finding out that it would be online added a little zing to the whole experience. What neither young man expected was that after the cameras turned off, there was still that odd little zing–surely it couldn’t be love?

The beauty of this story was in the careful peeling away of layers that allowed us to learn more and more about both Nathan and Rory. Piece by piece, we learn how Nathan was mistreated by a former boyfriend–made to feel he was inadequate–and that love was not real. We get to see the tender heart that Rory hides behind his sarcastic teasing and dry humor, and realize he really is actually a very lonely guy who is ready to settle down with someone special.

Was this story too short? Yes, of course, but only because Josephine Myles gave us two lovely main characters that capture our imagination and our hearts. While some of this relationship did end up off the page with the author telling us about it rather than us watching it evolve, I felt that, too, was handled as best as it could be, given the length of the book. Really the only complaint I have is that I want more of these two men–I would love to see a follow up novel exploring their life together as a couple. All in all, the quick and delightful humor, smart dialogue and intriguing premise made Einstein’s Peep Show a sweet romance that I would not hesitate to read again.

2.4 stars. Fun story and nice complementary MCs, but just didn't quite deliver. The relationship development was missing a large chunk.
