D.L. Myers is one of the more talented poets currently working in the vein of the weird, and this first volume of his verse is very welcome. Poems like "Harrow" and "The Demon Corn" show Myers at his best, and even the weakest pieces in this collection are worth a read. Dan Sauer's atmospheric illustrations are a nice bonus, and really do enhance the overall impact of the book.

The only weak spot is the very last of the book's eight sections, which is titled "Tributes", and consists of poems penned by other members of the Crimson Circle, a grouping of contemporary weird poets to which Myers belongs. Perhaps not surprisingly, these tribute poems feel foreign to the rest of the material in these pages, and on the whole are much weaker than Myers' own work, which makes for a rather weak ending to an otherwise worthwhile collection.
