This was such a great read. I loved how the story and world of The Beauty and the Beast was extended, making the characters and their actions so much more complex and meaningful. This also lead to some questions being answered, which were left open in the original Disney movie. Everything fitted so neatly together you might think it was meant to be like this from the start.

I'm preemptively DNFing because I'm 13% in and I'm feeling it's going to drag.

Instead of getting a prologue with Belle's parents we're treated to alternating chapters between her father's story with her mother and then Belle's story.

I am not against dual timelines, but it's really disorienting when I get to the point where Belle decides to take her father's place and then *bam* we're back with her parents.

I didn’t overly enjoy this story and I’m Not sure as to why. It was literally like reading the classic fairy tale until the last 100 pages where it got very dark and ya. I don’t think I would ever read this again sadly.

Disney's Twisted Tales

I really enjoyed this tale spun from the recognizable Disney's Beauty and the Beast. It kept me interested to keep reading until the end to see what was different and find out where this story was leading. The character depth and world build was great and expanded from the familiar characters of the movie.
We see what led up to the prince and castle being enchanted. We read as Belle and Beast try to figure out how to break the curse. Adventure, action, mystery and darkness surround this tale.

This was pretty fun. It followed Disney’s animated and live action Beauty and the Beast renditions pretty closely. It also alternated perspectives between four characters occasionally.

Overall, it read like a decent fanfic. I’ll give it points for some original ideas but there’s some things that I didn’t enjoy. It flowed well and it was written decently. The targeted age group is younger than me but some of the content is not for some people.

TW: torture (mentioned), kidnapping, imprisonment, intense anger (screaming), mistreatment, racism

*****Spoilers ahead!*****

This one could potentially be totally ignorable. Belle and the Beast suddenly became best friends. They’ve known each other for, what, 48 hours? And they’re chatting as if they’ve known each other for at least a year. It’s strange.

The descriptions and comparisons sometimes confused me. They were a little much. I personally don’t like these fluffy ways that raises up the author’s word count for the chapter, but others might.

Occasionally, the POV switching was confusing. Nothing too major.

It did drag in some places. The entire book is around 400 pages, so you’ve got to account for that. But I felt like the plot wasn’t evenly laid out.

The biggest problem I have is this open ending. It doesn’t wrap up enough! It’s sweet, for sure, but I want to see Belle’s reaction to the Beast’s human form. That’s half of the fun of reading “Beauty and the Beast” retellings!!

*****end of spoilers****

Fun and enjoyable with some darker twists.
